What we count
When a page opens, your browser sends one short message to our own address: the page’s address, the page you came from, and, when you use them, a press on a link to a place or to one of our sources and the choices you make in a list (a day, a kind, “free entry only”, the time inside, the order). When a search for a name finds nothing, we count the name in lower case, at most 40 characters, and only when it holds no “@” and no more than four digits.
From your browser’s network address and its name (the user agent), the counting service works out your country, region and city, and your kind of device, browser and operating system. It then forgets both. To tell one visitor from another for one day only, it keeps a code made from them and a secret that changes every 24 hours and is then deleted. So we cannot see who you are, and we cannot see you come back on another day.
Nothing is written to your device. If you want to be left out of the count, block the address touchgrass.berlin/_count/ in your content blocker: the pages work the same without it.
Why
To know whether this site gets people out to exhibitions, which pages and lists help, where they fail, and which links bring people here. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running and improving the site, Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. We never sell the numbers or use them for advertising, and we may publish the totals.
Who helps
The counts are made by Plausible Analytics (Plausible Insights OÜ, Tartu, Estonia), on our behalf and under a data processing agreement, and kept on servers in Germany. On the way, each count passes through bunny.net (BunnyWay d.o.o., Ljubljana, Slovenia), which serves this whole site from its location nearest to you; for a visitor abroad, that location can be outside the European Union. Plausible keeps the totals for as long as we use it.
bunny.net also writes a request log for three days, with network addresses shortened before they are written down. From it we count how often the button to a place’s own page is pressed.
Your rights
You may ask us what we hold about you, and object to the counting. Because we keep nothing that says who you are, there is usually nothing to show or delete.
